Service being discontinued

The Swestore storage service is being discontinued. No new project applications will be accepted, and thus there is no open application round in SUPR.

NAISS intends to launch an object storage based service funded by user fees, system introduction has been delayed due to the world wide computer equipment delivery issues but is proceeding.

In short, the following will happen:

  • Projects intending to use the new at-cost object storage will be extended to enable migrating the data to the new system when it becomes available, likely after the summer vacations.
    • You need to inform Swestore support if this is the case so we can make a manual exception.
  • Those NOT intending to use the upcoming NAISS object storage service will need to find another storage location for their data. Projects will enter the automated decomission process where data can be accessed for 60 days to allow for data transfer elsewhere.

Welcome to Swestore

In scientific areas such as high energy physics (the Large Hadron Collider at CERN), climate modelling, bioinformatics, and bioimaging, the demands for research data storage and research data services are increasing dramatically.

Swestore is a Research Data Storage Infrastructure, intended for active research data and operated by the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden, NAISS (previously the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing, SNIC).

The storage resources provided by Swestore are made available for free for academic research funded by VR and Formas through open calls such that the best Swedish research is supported and new research is facilitated.

The purpose of Swestore allocations, granted by the National Allocation Committee (NAC), is to provide large scale data storage for “live” or “working” research data, also known as active research data.
